So I’m not a huge hockey fan, but I think it’s a great thing when the Edmonton Oiler’s win, especially in the playoffs. It’s good for the morale of the city, it’s good for city business owners (merchandise, alcohol, bars, etc.), and it’s good for the Franchise owners, who have invested a lot of money into what could have been a risky venture.
That said, I did watch most of the game last night between San Jose and Edmonton, and boy, did people get their money’s worth. I unfortunately could not stay up to the end because I desperately needed sleep and I had to work the next morning but I just have to give a shout out to the players last night. This is the first time, and probably the only time that I will say they earned their exorbitant paycheques last night.
Ryan Smyth, captain of the Oiler’s, lost several teeth and went on to assist in the winning goal in the Third Overtime. That is a lot of playing and I’m surprised some of them didn’t keel over and say “I’m Done”. I certainly would have, especially after getting teeth knocked out and bleeding everywhere. How do you stay focused with that?
The other Player’s I’ll give mad props to are the goaltenders. The San Jose guy (Toskala) was just amazing, a flipping Iron Curtain, who definitely outshined the rest of his team. If anyone deserves a raise next year, he does. Let’s not count out our goalie either. Yay, Roloson!
All in all, I would love some day for my future child to be involved in NHL with the big bucks, but can they please go into management??? (More teeth to bite nails with…)
Yawn. It was a late night indeed yesterday. If it’s a boy… name it Ryan….
