We’ve now been through another round of the birth wringer. The metabolic folks, non-stress nurses and sonogram people have provided their input and we have been scheduled for a c-section on the 17th of October.
This is a week early for Ben - since his due date was the 24th - but it’s a necessary thing. He is big (over 8lbs now - 7-10 at the last ‘weigh-in’ ultrasound.) This means that just going the ‘natural’ route would be tricky. Added to that challenge - he’s upside down… which is to say… right side up. He’s happily riding head up - with his but sitting on Mom’s bladder. And thanks to the wonders of feminine architecture - certain challenges are going to prevent him from turning downside up.
Big and breech - Ben’s getting a one way ticket to belly-birth. Which is scary - but also somewhat comforting. I know a number of women who have had very difficult labours - and as many who’ve had tricky c-sections. Of them all though - the consistent element is that every one of them became a proud mom very quickly. We’ll roll with whatever punches come - since we really have no choice anyway…
Soon, the baby will be here - and his room will be filled with diaper-scent and gurgling. I can’t say I’m ready - but I do notice something missing when I go into the nursery.
We’re as ready as we can be I guess… See you soon son…
17th huh? That’s two days before my girlfriend’s birthday.
And wow, Ben’s definitely not making it easy is he? Then again, the womb does seem rather nice as far as accomodations go.
Good luck to Ben and Lin, though I’m sure they won’t need it. I’ll save congratulations for the 17th!
We are sure that both mother and son will be just fine. Grey Nuns Hospital has a good reputation and we are so looking forward to the day we have all waited for. I’m sure that Lin will be very happy to have it all over with and that Benjamin will be a beautiful boy that you will both be proud of. I know we will at our end! Can’t wait to hold the little guy and see those first baby pics.
