Living history
Day 8: March 14
No really. I’m living history. Three times a day – my clocks (PC / Phone / BB) Switch themselves around – fighting for control of time itself!
Not since 1916 when the British Government enacted the first of the ‘daylight’ savings routines (80 minutes, 20 minutes each sunday for 4 weeks) has there been such uproar and hassle over the current time.
Ok. Hassle. Uproar is irrelevant.
Here’s the rub. In 2 weeks – it won’t matter. The “Pre-March 11th” DST settings will kick in – and everything will be fine, but for these few weeks – we’re in time Limbo. COOL. Built in excuses for a whole HOST of things.
Sorry I’m late honey – my Windows sync Timex watch is messed up and keeps getting reset!
Darn – this Blackberry didn’t get the system patch! Sorry Boss!
Oh wait. This isn’t good. I have a Mac. My Blackberry works…. my machine is correct, my webserver is up to date, and my email is fine.
Well. At least I have this office telephone that is out of whack – shit. IT just updated it for the day. Everybody back in the pool.
ED NOTE: Just for giggles – from the washington post – this note from microsoft:
But Microsoft cautions that some of its older products — including Windows XP SP1 and Windows NT4 — will require manual updates. The company’s Web site provides detailed instructions on how to update various products, although it is pushing against the deadline in some cases. Updates and tools “are being developed and tested,” the Web site says, and some will “be released through early March 2007.”
As a fallback, Microsoft urges customers to double-check meetings scheduled during the four weeks being added to daylight saving time this year.
