Farewell and Godspeed…

I saw in a CBC news article (url-link) this afternoon that Wally Schirra has passed away.

Wally was one of the Mercury 7 – those space pioneers introduced to the world in 1957; the astronaut heroes of every kid born between 1955 and 1975. He took part in three missions – Mercury 8, Gemini 6, and Apollo 7, and worked with CBS as a special correspondent for years.

He was one of “those guys” – the guys with the right stuff. We should be thankful for his efforts over the years, and offer our thanks for helping to open the door to space, and the realm beyond.
