Newsy news news.

Just headin to the office – but caught This Piece on the Globe and Mail. An excellent piece overall. In fact – the Globe was denied an interview because they wanted the family to ‘get back to them’ when it was convenient for the paper’s reporter… (needless to say – their request hit the bin.) [...]

Hourly blogging?

Posted by Scratch on January 17, 2006 at 9:18 am

I don’t like hourly blogs – they only happen when bad things are going on. I just got a link to Will Salikin’s blog… Son – you’ve got too much in your head that matters to people – keep strong…. people need you… we’re all pullin for ya… (Link to Sal’s Blog) Now available – [...]

Serious – but stable

Posted by Scratch on January 16, 2006 at 4:50 pm

According to CBC / CTV news Pauls condition has been upgraded to Serious – but stable. Not bad considering the circumstances. I’ve just talked to the crew at his place – and he is now in Germany – safe, sound, awake – and probably wants a beer… He’s got some recovery to do – but [...]

Hero huh?

Posted by Scratch on January 16, 2006 at 3:20 pm

CBC news is now reporting the condition of the 2 soldiers apparently attended to by Paul during the incident. The headline reads “Medic emerges as heroic figure in Afghan convoy tragedy” – and while it may seem heroic – it’s not. It’s Paul. Doing his job – no more or less… As a Soldier – [...]

Day 2

Posted by Scratch on January 16, 2006 at 3:15 pm

Paul and the others are now enroute to Germany – expected to land at 1400hrs MST. It’s a fairly long trip, and no doubt not much fun in a military transport. Audra was on more media early this morning – and while I applaud her strength – I know how much she is hurting. Good [...]

The Papers

Posted by Scratch on January 16, 2006 at 11:15 am

Still no news – though Paul should be landing at Ramstein sometime in the next few hours – if he isn’t wheels down already. This Edmonton Journal Article does a pretty good job of talking about our experience yesterday – waiting for news, though again – no news is good news. Will be heading over [...]

Time for bed…

Posted by Scratch on January 15, 2006 at 11:45 pm

No news is good new I suppose… We just caught the CTV and Global news stories on Paul and the Guys after getting home. It all starts again at 3:30 am – as Paul should be wheels down at Ramstein and enroute to the Landstuhl medical centre by 4:15 am Edmonton time. Darren – good [...]

A phone call from Ottawa

Posted by Scratch on January 15, 2006 at 8:13 pm

Just got off the phone with Audra. She had just gotten off the phone with the Prime Minister, Paul Martin – who called to express his respect, and best wishes. Good on ya Mr. Martin… Good on ya. See the CBC video shot earlier this afternoon here www.cbc.ca/clips/… My wife did a good job of [...]

Rough day indeed

Posted by Scratch on January 15, 2006 at 6:32 pm

We’ve been around the Franklins most of the day now… Lots of media, friends and family about. It’s a tough time for everyone – of course Paul is such a smartass he’s got his sense of humour about him. We’be had little more information – but he’ll be arriving in Rammstein late tonight (0400 LOCAL [...]

Terrible News

Posted by Scratch on January 15, 2006 at 9:10 am

Just got word that my buddy Paul was seriously injured in a Suicide bombing (Jihad Jeep) in Kandahar. We’re heading to his wife’s place now… I have no real right to be but I’m pretty pissed off… The guy was comin home in 3 weeks… Now – while he get’s to do it early -and- [...]
